When making sodium using table salt and electricity…..?
Is it necessary for the wires to run directly through the NaCl, or can you run the electricity through the pan for it to still work? Also, how hot does the temperature have to be to melt the NaCl?
Sodium chloride melts at 801 degrees C.
Yes, the container could serve as one of the electrodes, if the material was conductive, nonreactive, and able to handle the temperature.
BTW, this is not to be recommended as an “at home” process.
