Methods of transplanting a frangipani (plumeria) from a pot to the ground?
This is an established tree, about four feet tall, which has been in the pot for between five and seven years. I have always wanted to plant it, and finally have a great in-ground location for it. The pot is a very large, heavy ceramic pot (about three – four foot tall itself, and about two foot wide) and I will probably have to break it to remove the tree, so cutting out the bottom of the pot and planting the whole thing is not an option. I’d really like to make the ‘transplant’ a success! Any advice from plumeria fans? Thanks!
I hope you got some one to help you, Can this big pot be turned on its side and rolled to the spot you want to plant it. if so. Get these people to roll it over there.
First put lots of water in it to soak up the soil, take a wheel barrow over there. Gently dip out all the soil you can get out and put in the wheel barrow. Trying not to damage the branches and roots.
Now dig a hole in ground where you want to plant it, make the whole larger than the pot. and plenty deep. Save your dirt for putting around the tree when you get it planted.
When the hole is the right size pick up the tree and place in the hole. Now you can put some water in the hole start to put the soil around the tree. Firmly pack it down a little so it is next to the roots. Keep adding a little water as you add the dirt so it will be moist. and pack the dirt around the tree that you saved until the hole is filled up.
And save the rest of the dirt for later so you will have some soil to fill in as the soil packs down in a few days ,and keep watered for a few weeks until the roots start to grow.
later feed it some plant food, and your tree should take off growing.
And you still have a big flower pot to plant something else in.
