Why Bread and Coffee? Why another food blog?

We at Bread and Coffee were frustrated with the so-called professional restaurant reviews were were seeing in our local newspapers. They are short and shallow and pre-announced, hardly the ideal conditions to give readers a real sense of what it’s like to eat there. These restaurants know they are being reviewed and so one would assume they put forth their best effort, both on the plate and on the floor. What does that have to do with US, the regular joes who saunter into an eatery without a reservation?

We decided not much. So we set out writing a few posts about our experiences at local eateries. Reviews that give you more information than just how rare the steak was cooked and whether to waiter was rude. We wondered what the ambience was really like? Was parking a chore? Was the terrine all it was cracked up to be? Is it condusive to conversation? Is it a good place to take the in-laws or visiting friends? Should we go there again?

We’ve also included recipes and cooking ideas, thus making Bread and Coffee a wholistic resource for the everyday food lover. Not the gourmet, not the chef, not professional restaurant reviewer, but the folks who work 9-5 and like to eat. This is for those who want to cut through the clutter and get to the heart of the matter: good food and good friends and good memories. This is for people who probably don’t have truffle oil in their pantry, nor a Kitchen Aid standing mixer (but if you do we won’t hold it against you) but just want good, honest food related content.

So welcome to Bread and Coffee. We’d love to hear from you with ideas, suggestions, and critiques. If one person leaves this site with a new idea then we consider our job done.
